Denied Deferment! Has This Happened to Anyone Else?

Hallo…

I just started my master’s at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota and I’m trying to figure out how to pay for it while still dealing with my undergrad loans. So, I applied for an in-school deferment on my federal loans to make things easier, but I just got a letter saying I was denied! Apparently, the school “doesn’t qualify” for deferment.
The thing is, this is a well-known, accredited school (at least where I’m from), so I’m super confused. Has this happened to anyone else? Here’s what the letter said:“You recently applied for an In-School Deferment to postpone your federal student loan payments, but we are unable to approve your request because your current school is not an eligible institution according to federal guidelines. To be eligible for an In-School Deferment, you must be attending a school that is approved to participate in the federal financial aid programs. If you have questions about your school’s eligibility, please contact your school’s financial aid office." :face_with_raised_eyebrow:
I’m kinda stuck and not sure what to do next. Has anyone gone through this or know what’s up?

Your help will be highly valuable…

Which sort of postponement were you refused? (For instance, deferments for student loans, military service, and time off from employment or school)

What location are you in? There might be significant regional and national variations in deferment laws and regulations. :grimacing:

that you are aware of the particular conditions necessary for the kind of deferment you were hoping for.

See a financial expert or attorney  if you’re unclear about your options; they can offer advice depending on your unique situation.

If you think you fit the bill, be sure you have all the paperwork you need to back up your claim.
