Hey everyone, just wanted to share some good news in case anyone else is worried like I was about the whole loan forgiveness thing. I got an email back in May saying my loans were forgiven. They said it would take a few months, maybe 6. Well, it wasn’t until mid-November that everything was cleared from my Aidvantage account. A few days or a week later, it was gone from my student loans too. That felt so good!
I started wondering if I would get a refund. There was a small negative balance on my account, around $360, and I thought maybe that would be the refund. Well, today I got a check in the mail, and it wasn’t just $360. It was for a four-figure amount! Totally unexpected!
So don’t rely on the negative balance showing on your account — the refund could be more than that. Also, make sure Aidvantage or whatever loan company you’re dealing with has your correct address. Big thanks to everyone on this forum who kept us updated. Woohoo!
If only they would help people who borrowed from scam schools like SFAI (San Francisco Art Institute). It went under a few years ago, and I’m still paying off a private loan for the one semester I attended 20 years ago. That was a scam!
