I recently paid off my student loans in full during COVID. With the Forgiveness Program now in place, I called my loan provider this morning to request a refund of the amount I paid. The representative was not sure how long the refund would take, and I was informed that the refund process is handled by Financial Student Aid, not the loan provider.
I contacted Ed Financial earlier and the rep said it would take 6 months to process.
In addition, the guy also said that the money would get deposited back into my checking account. I am really hoping it takes the shortest time possible to increase my odds of forgiveness.
I then went ahead and told them to do it so that they exclude me from forgiveness, I would just immediately pay it all back.
I would either call back to clarify or try calling a Department of Education customer service representative directly to request it, as other customers have been advised by their providers that it will take 4-6 weeks.
