Is anyone able to get in touch with Nelnet?

My college loans were regretfully transferred to Nelnet after years of excellent service from Great Lakes. I received notices from Great Lakes months ago and Nelnet a few days ago informing me that the loans had been moved. Unfortunately, no student loans showed up when I checked in.

When I tried to call Nelnet yesterday at the advertised number, 888.486.4722, I got a recording that said, “This is Nelnet,” and then nothing. As of right now, not even a tape exists.

Are their little systems simply overloaded? Does anyone else face the same issue?

Sounds like your loans are still in transition between Great Lakes and Nelnet. Their systems getting overloaded is a possibility, especially with loan transfers. You’re not alone - many people experience delays during these handoffs. Don’t worry, Nelnet should have your loans up and running soon. In the meantime, try calling them at a different time of day or reach out through their website at Nelnet. They should be able to give you an update on the transfer.

Hey Kenneth. I feel you. Try calling them using this number (877)402-5795 and thank me later :slightly_smiling_face:.

Your answer is not helping at all because Kenneth just said he’s been calling using the same number.

Ten minutes earlier, I experienced the same problem—I called, but all I got was quiet. I immediately succeeded when I attempted to connect with someone without having to wait by inserting a 1 before the area code.

When my college loans were transferred from Great Lakes to Nelnet, I experienced a similar issue. Despite receiving notifications from both Great Lakes and Nelnet, my loans didn’t appear in Nelnet’s system when I checked. I tried calling Nelnet at their advertised number, 888.486.4722, but only got a recording that abruptly ended with no further information. It was frustrating and concerning. I soon realized that their systems were likely overloaded due to the transfer process. I reached out to others in online forums and discovered many were facing the same issue. Persistence in contacting Nelnet through different channels, like email or their online chat, and checking the account regularly helped resolve the situation eventually.
