MOHELA put me on a 10 year Repayment Plan. Help!

I was notified on July 17th that my account had been placed into forbearance as a result of their account changeover. I got another repayment schedule the following day, July 18, which said that payments will resume on August 28 at the same rate I was paying until November. Then, I switch to a ten-year payment plan, which results in a few thousand dollar increase in my payment. Right now, I’m on SAVE. The dates on each of these notices preceded the court decision. As usual, contacting MOHELA was unsuccessful. Has anyone else encountered this issue? I will never be able to pay back a 10-year payback plan.

You were not placed on a 10-year repayment plan. If you need to recertify in September, it will ensure that your payments from November 2024 to November 2025 remain income-driven. Due to the forbearance, it appears they are extending the timeline so you will still make 12 payments according to your current plan.

Verify whether your SAVE plan remains active, as it could take precedence over the 10-year plan.
