Student debts and tuition at NYU

Has anyone finished undergrad at NYU? My daughter got in :mortar_board: They gave her $0 :money_with_wings: She wants media/comm, but costs are steep: 1st year $87k, 2nd year $91k, 3rd year $94k, 4th year $97k. I can cover $30k/yr. Rest = loans, total $250k :disappointed: I’m a single mom, don’t get how they think we don’t need aid. Only equity is $400k home. Does this make sense? Did anyone take on this much debt for a non-lucrative degree? It’s her dream, she worked hard. Do I break her heart or our finances? :broken_heart:

NYU is amazing, but super expensive, especially for media and communications (around $370k total with your contribution). Here’s the thing:

  • NYU might offer more aid: Their average cost is lower than the sticker price. Appeal their offer and see if you get a better deal.
  • Debt is a big burden: $250k in loans for media and communications might make future goals like buying a house difficult.
  • Great programs exist elsewhere: Consider public universities or scholarships to get a great education for much less.

There are ways to make her dream a reality without breaking the bank. Talk to a college counselor or financial advisor for help!
