Why have some of my student loans been randomly marked as “ADMIN FORB FOR REMEDIATION”?
I make biweekly payments on my loan account, one being the auto-debit amount and the other an extra payment towards the highest interest loan. I regularly check to ensure payments are applied correctly. Today, I noticed that my auto-debit amount dropped unexpectedly from $849 to $660. Upon investigation, I found that 5 of my 15 loans now show the status “ADMIN FORB FOR REMEDIATION” instead of “Repayment.” I received no notification from Nelnet and am unsure why this happened.
From my research, it seems that sometimes entire accounts can be placed into administrative forbearance due to servicer errors, but that doesn’t appear to be the case here, as only a portion of my loans are affected. I haven’t had any issues with these specific loans before. Has anyone experienced this or know what might be happening? I plan to call on Monday, but I expect a long wait and am not optimistic about getting useful assistance from Nelnet.
UPDATE: I called Nelnet today and surprisingly waited only about 5 minutes. The representative explained that there was a due date error affecting 2.8 million accounts, and the forbearance should end in a few days. I hope this is accurate, but we’ll see.
It’s so frustrating because the last time they made a mistake, it took them three months to correct it. Have you been experiencing any other issues leading up to this?
I’ve had my loans with Nelnet for a decade in the graduate repayment plan, and this is the first issue I’ve encountered. I haven’t consolidated them or applied for any other repayment options. My payments were normal last month, but this month, two out of five of my loans were unexpectedly switched to administrative forbearance.
I came here with a similar issue! I paid off a small group of loans, but there was $0.08 in remaining interest that has now been marked as “ADMIN FORB FOR REMEDIATION.” I’ll also be calling on Monday. Thanks for bringing this up, OP!
Did you find out what’s happening? I called today, and they couldn’t answer any of my questions completely incompetent. The email I received this morning mentioned that the forbearance period is from 07/20/24 to 08/19/24, but today is already the 19th of August. What’s going on? Interest is still accruing on all my loans too. Nelnet is really frustrating.
I’m experiencing the same issue. 6 out of my 10 Nelnet loans have suddenly been placed in this “admin forbearance for remediation” status. I’ve also noticed significant amounts of “capitalized interest” appearing on some of the loans. I’m completely baffled, and if they add this interest to my loans after this unexpected forbearance I didn’t request, I’ll be extremely frustrated. Nelnet is awful; I dislike them intensely. I never had issues with MyGreatLakes before. I just feel like crying. It’s as if they never want me to be free of these loans.
