Received a Letter About the Fresh Start Program—Confused About Mysterious Student Loans

Hey guys,

Been really focused on paying off my student loans recently—I’ve paid $11,000 to Navient since January and was feeling pumped about getting close to being debt-free.

But today, I got a letter from the Department of Education about the Fresh Start program, saying I’m eligible to get my loans out of default. The weird thing is, when I checked online, I found out I somehow have $23,000+ in loans that I had no clue existed. My credit reports don’t mention anything about these loans, and the only accounts I see are with Navient. The website they directed me to (myeddebt dot ed dot gov) doesn’t give much information either.

I plan to call tomorrow to try and figure out what’s going on, but I’m really confused and would appreciate any insights. Has anyone else experienced something like this? What could be happening here? Thanks in advance

Hey students,
the Fresh Start program offers a one-time chance to restore defaulted federal student loans to good standing. If you qualify, you can get a fresh start by enrolling in the program and benefiting from its advantages.

Hey mates,Unfortunately, scams often target student loan borrowers. It’s crucial to verify any information you receive and be wary of unsolicited offers or requests for your personal details. Stay vigilant to protect yourself from fraud.

Go to studentaid.gov and log in. You can see all of your loans there, along with the lenders.
